The Setia Badminton Academy was established in 1997 with a mandate to help develop new generations of world-class badminton players in Malaysia. The objective of the Academy is to equip grassroots players with excellent basic badminton skills while promoting and developing badminton as a healthy sport for all ages.
With 1985 World Champion Han Jian at the helm as Chief Coach, the Academy’s home base is in Subang Jaya, Selangor and it also has a training complex in Setia Alam, Shah Alam. There are approximately 250 players training under Han Jian, who is assisted by 4 other coaches from Indonesia and Malaysia.
The primary aim of the Academy is to train players between the ages of 7 to 15 years old on basic badminton skills. The emphasis is on mastering skills which are necessary in order to become a good badminton player. Character-building is also an important component and trainees are instilled with core values such as self-discipline, perseverance and punctuality. Other services provided by the Academy are coaching clinics, individual or group training and other badminton skills courses.
