Kuala Lumpur, 10 May 2016 - KL Eco City, S P Setia largest integrated mixed commercial and residential development in Malaysia with 7.5 million sq ft gross floor area records a milestone of 14 million safe man-hour, a result achieved through the collective efforts of Team Setia and all of its contractors who are involved in the construction of the project to date. A ceremonial luncheon was held today at the development’s Green Building Index (GBI) Gold Certified sales gallery to recognise contractor’s contributions and commitments in achieving this significant safe man-hours.
The ceremony was graced by guest of honour, IR Zamzurin bin Marof, Deputy Director of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, Deputy President and COO of S P Setia Berhad, who presented the certificates of appreciation to the deserving contractors. They are Putra Perdana Construction Sdn Bhd, Trans Resources Corporation Sdn Bhd, Ireka Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd, TRS Engineers Sdn Bhd and Ikhmas Jaya Sdn Bhd.
The safety man-hours has been accumulated since mid-2012 when the first ground works started. It is calculated based on eight (8) hours work per worker on a daily basis.
This milestone is achieved through stringent safety requirements that demand contractors to implement, control, enforce and monitor the improvements of the project in a timely yet safe manner. A full time safety personnel is stationed at each parcel of KL Eco City to monitor the respective contractor’s safety practices every day to reduce the rate of injury. Besides that, a weekly site inspection is done alongside the contractor and consultants to confront key safety issues on site such as maintenance of safety systems or identifying potential hazardous situation on site. Regular engagement with contractors and senior management further improves the safety condition on site for the workers.
Other than ensuring safety on site, Team Setia also organises regular training programs for the workers which improves their understanding towards stringent safety measures to be taken when on site and how it helps the workers keep themselves safe at all time in their work environment. Workers who shows good work attitude and safety practices are recognised and rewarded as a mode of appreciation and encouragement to ensure better safety practices on site.
